Herra vastaa Jobille: Jobin on turha yrittää mitellä voimiaan hänen kanssaan, joka on luonut maailman ja hallitsee luonnonilmiöt.

5. Kuka on määrännyt sen mitat — tottapa sen tiedät — tahi kuka on vetänyt mittanuoran sen ylitse?

5 Who determined the measures of it, if you know? Or who stretched the line upon it?

6 Upon what were the foundations of it fastened? Or who laid the cornerstone of it

8 Or (who) shut up the sea with doors when it broke forth, (like) it had gone forth out of the womb,

8. Wer hat das Meer mit Türen verschlossen, da es herausbrach wie aus Mutterleib,

9. kun minä panin sille pilven vaatteeksi ja synkeyden kapaloksi,

9. Cosca minä puetin sen pilwillä ja käärein syngeydellä nijncuin capaloilla?

9 when I made clouds the garment of it and thick darkness a swaddling-band for it,

9. When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

10 and marked out for it my bound and set bars and doors,

10. And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

11. ja sanoin: 'Tähän asti saat tulla, mutta edemmäksi et; tässä täytyy sinun ylväiden aaltojesi asettua'?

11 and said, This far you will come, but no farther and here your proud waves will be stayed?

11. And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

11. und sprach: "Bis hierher sollst du kommen und nicht weiter; hier sollen sich legen deine stolzen Wellen!"?

11 и сказал: доселе дойдешь и не перейдешь, и здесь предел надменным волнам твоим?

12 Have you commanded the morning since your days (began, and) caused the dayspring to know its place

13. että se tarttuisi maan liepeisiin ja pudistaisi jumalattomat siitä pois?

13 that it might take hold of the ends of the earth and the wicked be shaken out of it?

14 It is changed as clay under the seal and (all things) stand forth as a garment.

14. Sie wandelt sich wie Ton unter dem Siegel, und alles steht da wie im Kleide.

14. Trasmudándose como lodo de sello; y parándose como vestidura:

14 чтобы земля изменилась, как глина под печатью, и стала, как разноцветная одежда,

15. jumalattomilta riistetään heidän valonsa, ja kohonnut käsivarsi murskataan.

15. Ja jumalattomilta otetaan pois heidän valkeutensa, ja ylpeiden käsivarsi rikotaan.

15 And from the wicked their light is withheld and the high arm is broken.

17 Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?

17. Haben sich dir des Todes Tore je aufgetan, oder hast du gesehen die Tore der Finsternis?

18. Käsitätkö, kuinka avara maa on? Ilmoita se, jos kaiken tämän tiedät.

18 Have you comprehended the earth in its breadth? Declare, if you know it all.

19 Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And as for darkness, where is the place of it

21 You know, for you were born then and the number of your days is great!

26. niin että sataa maahan, joka on asumaton, erämaahan, jossa ei ihmistä ole,

26 to cause it to rain on a land where no man is, on the wilderness, in which there is no man,

26. To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

26. und läßt regnen aufs Land da niemand ist, in der Wüste, da kein Mensch ist,

26. Haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada; sobre el desierto, donde no hay hombre;

27. niin että autio erämaa saa kylläksensä ja maa kasvaa vihannan ruohon?

27 to satisfy the waste and desolate (ground) and to cause the tender grass to spring forth?

30 The waters hide themselves (and become) like stone and the face of the deep is frozen.
