Jobin puheen jatkoa: Jumala sallii köyhiä ja vähäväkisiä sorrettavan; jumalattomat saavat rankaisematta tehdä pahoja töitään.

1. Miksi ei Kaikkivaltias ole varannut tuomion aikoja, ja miksi eivät saa ne, jotka hänet tuntevat, nähdä hänen päiviänsä?

12 From out of the populous city men groan and the soul of the wounded cries out. Yet God does not regard the foolishness.

13 These are of those who rebel against the light. They do not know the ways of it, nor abide in the paths of it.

15. Avionrikkojan silmä tähyilee hämärää, hän arvelee: 'Ei yksikään silmä minua näe', ja hän panee peiton kasvoillensa.

15. Salavuoteisen silmät vartioitsevat hämärää, ja sanoo: ei minua yksikään silmä näe; ja luulee itsensä peitetyksi.

15 The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye will see me. And he disguises his face.

16. He murtautuvat pimeässä taloihin, päivällä he sulkeutuvat sisään, tahtomatta tietää valosta.

16. Pimeässä hän kaivaa itsensä huoneisiin, jotka he päivällä ovat itsellensä merkinneet, ja ei tahdo tietää valkeutta.

16 In the dark they dig through houses. They shut themselves up in the daytime. They do not know the light.

17. Sillä pimeys on heille kaikille aamun vertainen, koska pimeyden kauhut ovat heille tutut. —

17 For the morning is to all of them as thick darkness. For they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

18. Hän kiitää pois vetten viemänä, kirottu on hänen peltopalstansa maassa, hän ei enää poikkea viinimäkien tielle.

18 Swiftly they (pass away) upon the face of the waters. Their portion is cursed in the earth. They do not turn into the way of the vineyards.

19. Kuivuus ja kuumuus ahmaisevat lumiveden, samoin tuonela ne, jotka syntiä tekevät.

19. Helvetti ottaa syntiset pois niinkuin pouta, ja niinkuin kuivuus kuluttaa lumisen veden.

19 Drought and heat consume the snow waters, (and Sheol those who) have sinned.

20. Äidin kohtu unhottaa hänet, madot syövät hänet herkkunaan, ei häntä enää muisteta; niin murskataan vääryys kuin puu.

20. Laupius pitää unhottaman hänen, madot syövät hänen makeutensa, ei häntä pidä muistettaman; hän pitää särjettämän niinkuin lahopuu.

20 The womb will forget him. The worm will feed sweetly on him. He will be no more remembered. And unrighteousness will be broken as a tree.

21. Hän ryösti hedelmättömältä, joka ei synnytä, ja leskelle hän ei hyvää tehnyt. —

21 He devours the barren who do not bear and does no good to the widow.

22. Väkivaltaiset Jumala ylläpitää voimallansa; he pysyvät pystyssä, vaikka jo olivat epätoivossa hengestään.

22. Ja on vetänyt voimalliset allensa väellänsä; koska hän seisoo, ei pidä hänen tietämän elämästänsä.

22 Yet (God) prolongs the mighty by his power. He rises up who has no assurance of life.

23. Hän antaa heidän olla turvassa, ja heillä on vahva tuki; ja hänen silmänsä valvovat heidän teitänsä.

23. Hän tekee itsellensä levon, johon hän luottaa, ja hänen silmänsä katsovat heidän teitänsä.

23 (God) gives them to be in security and they rest in it. And his eyes are upon their ways.

23. Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.

24. He ovat kohonneet korkealle — ei aikaakaan, niin ei heitä enää ole; he vaipuvat kokoon, kuolevat kuin kaikki muutkin, he taittuvat kuin vihneet tähkäpäästä.

24. He ovat vähän aikaa korotetut, vaan he tulevat tyhjään, ja kukistetaan, ja saavat lopun niinkuin kaikki kappaleet, ja niinkuin oas tähkäpäästä, lyödään he pois.

24. Fueron enaltecidos por un poco, y desaparecieron, y son abatidos como cada cual: serán encerrados, y cortados como cabezas de espigas.

24 Поднялись высоко, – и вот, нет их; падают и умирают, как и все, и, как верхушки колосьев, срезываются.

25. Eikö ole niin? Kuka tekee minut valhettelijaksi ja saattaa sanani tyhjiksi?

25 And if it is not so now, who will prove me a liar and make my speech worth nothing?

25. Ist's nicht also? Wohlan, wer will mich Lügen strafen und bewähren, daß meine Rede nichts sei?

25. Y si no es así, ¿quién me desmentirá ahora, o tornará en nada mis palabras?

25 Если это не так, – кто обличит меня во лжи и в ничто обратит речь мою?
